I am speaking from a (former) vendors view where hundreds of users came in weekly for various reasons. I also never said anything about the SHARPNESS of the lenses either. I was discussing the construction, and the materials that they use to build lenses. So you have had good experiences, good for you. You can't afford the admitedly better Nikon lenses, sorry. I have had the same issues too.

Sigma sells lenses becuase stores sell them in volume (usually to rookies who just dropped a large pot of cash on a body) and they are cheaper than factory glass. You won't see lines of pros at the counter clamoring for Sigma glass.

Fair point.

However, I'm aware that people have had problems with Sigma lenses, but I can only speak from my experience Just for the record, my Sigma 24mm Nikon lens and my Sigma 70-210 Nikon fit lens bought some 15 years ago still work fine too...

I wouldn't expect to see pros buying them, because pros have a different opinion and need. They need robust equipment to work every day, week and year. Mine work intermittently, though yesterday I took 480+ images in 2 hours, using sigma lenses. Perfect performers! Razor sharp and succulent colours on my venerable D100. I guess the older Sigma lenses might not have coped with that.
