actually, I read quite a few tests before deciding to buy a Sigma 15-30 mm lens and so far, I haven't regretted it.
No compatibility problems with my Minolta cameras. The lens already gives me a relatively strong wide angle with the 7d (1.6 crop factor) but with my Dynax 9 and Fujichrome Velvia, I have got some really fascinating pictures.
 
From what I read, manufacturing quality differs from lens to lens at Sigma.
At least, i haven't regretted buying the 15-30 mm.

newest lenses?  I thought their 400 with HSM was pretty good as is
their  180 macro.  Other than those two I might agree with you .
