As much as I know - Those are software that you have to download the
first time you need to use them like Adobe Acroread or QuickTime etc'.
When you download them the first time and maybe when an upgrade
available, your firewall ask for your permission to install them.

One question, if someone might know . . . about the Adobe reader . . .
what's the Active-X all about? Is it necessary with Norton,
Microsoft's denzions of security protections, and my ISP's firewall, too?
How do I get Active-X off my computer?
