optical slaves are perfect for IR transmitters... no problems triggering them at all... they get triggered by the InfraRed Flash that we cannot perceive... these transmitters packs a punch... only problem is when the strobes are at an akward angle away from the transmitter... a small mirror taped to the optical slave will slove it nicely and they can see the IR flash again...

if you have the IR transmitter on the hotshoe... the preflash on the body will NOT trigger...

have tried the D70 setup with strobes from ehlinchromes to brons to china-made lightweights... they work for sure and it is a great solution... much better than a pc cord adapter... pc cords are outdated anyways... the wires are too painful to work with... IR or Radio transmitters are MUCH better... the prices for IR is dirt cheap these days... try it and you will never go back to a corded setup again... :)

Well I never heard that an IR transmitter would trigger an optical slave. This requires some research on my part.
