Until it's output it isn't a photograph. Just data. While it's on a drive or compact disk it's not finished. The idea of digital negatives is a very good one but that doesn't take care of the redundancy of the storage medium.
It's all very well having a silverbullet archival laser-disk-o-mat which lasts 200 years but if nobody has the laser-disk-o-mat drives in 5 years and all the new computers come out with ultra-sonic-audi-digi 100terrabyte disk drives  then what's it worth?
Make prints people.... let's keep photography alive!
