This kind of sailing is hit and run, sort of. The object of the game
is for one team of three boats to keep the other team of three boats
from getting across the finish line first. Forcing one to flip is
definitely not kosher, however. I don't recall what the penalty was
for that, but I suspect it was a forfeit, if the winner was
responsible.
On the other side, these boats are very small and they can be made to
flip pretty easily - I suspect they practice this situation pretty
diligently so they don't lose too much time righting the boat.
