Afraid I´ve been very lazy (or busy; take your pick) lately, contributing neither images nor opinions. And then, along comes this week´s crop; the best one for quite a long time. I just HAVE to write someting about it!

The PhotoForum members' gallery/exhibit space was updated MAY 21 2005. Authors
with work now on display at http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery.html include:

Bob Talbot - Walk
Magnificent! Muted, harmonious colours, extremely strong composition. The apparent simplicity is disturbed by the visual ambiguity of the concrete structure: is it a horizontal jetty or some kind of pyramid? No reason we should know; the picture gains a lot from our uncertainty... Best one this week (and for quite a few weeks...).

Marilyn Dalrymple - Atomic Number 13
OK, that should make it Beer Can Metal (Al), but mainly this is pure abstraction. Suppose the colour is from the lighting; works well, and the texture and pattern makes it possible to "see" lots of things that aren´t really there. And that´s how art should work.

Emily L. Ferguson - Stad Amsterdam goes to the starting line
Wow! Wish I had been there then... Suppose this is from the Tall Ships Race; they usually pass at least one Swedish port too, but we don´t have such a backdrop. (Stockholm does have something equal in the Southern Cliff, but due to the archipelago, they ships seldom use sails all the way in).

Kostas Papakotas - Broken Ship
My initial comment about muted, harmonious colours and strong composition seems to apply to every picture so far, and certainly to this one. Very good!

Greg Fraser - View From the Top
Here, the harmony of colours is replaced by an intriguing disharmony: it looks like the reflection of some huge flag, but then again.... Good, strong lines.

Howard Leigh - Zygocactus, Spring 2005
Beautiful flowers, extremely well photographed. I am not a little disturbed by the totally burnt-out window; would it have been possible to move the pots temporarily to a dark background?

Margaret Lucas - power to the puddles
Seems to be not only wet, but cold as well: all the water we see is frozen solid. We´ve been through this here in Sweden as well, and tried to photograph it. This is a far better attempt than any of mine this last winter..

Andrew Davidhazy - Torso in blue
Strong 50:ies flavour (Hajek-Halke and that bunch), but very well done. Did you plan to get the solarization effects, or was this just a happy accident? With your background and experience, I suppose it was planned that way. Very interesting image either way.
