Gregory,
Do be careful. This is easy stuff for many of us who were bought up on the DOS prompt, but it has very few protective mechanisms built in. It can be dangerous. I'm sure, in learning, that we all got switches wrong and input incorrect arguments, but we survived our flubs. Make sure you know what you're doing before you start using DOS to fiddle with a Windows environment. ;>)
I suggest that you go to Download.com and search on "file comparison". I found dozens in a flash. There are also reviews and reader comments that might help guide you to a choice.

Gregory,
It is difficult now to find references, my first thought is locate an old time computer person who may still have a DOS 6 manual. (That dates to about 1993 I suspect, in the days when they actually gave you hard copy of manuals.). Possibly look in second hand book shops. Can't offer my copy unless you want to pay postage to US, would cost approaching $20 including packing.
On the other hand I looked up "Windows command prompt" on google, with 2,400,000 hits.

Jim,
Can you point me in the direction of learning command prompt language and definitions?
