That "proprietary RAW" statement is misleading. ALL camera manufacturers have a proprietary RAW format.


What Karl is probably referring to is Nikon's recent announcement that they were going to encrypt part of the RAW information so that third party software (read; Photoshop) would have to do some decrypting (not really that hard to do) to properly interpret portions of the raw data. Nikon has always provided the info to Adobe in the past.

The latest news (from http://www.photoshopnews.com) is that Nikon and Adobe are talking, and the matter probably will be resolved soon.

Not that it was such a big deal in the first place.
