you've got both lenses so which one do you prefer? Are you a collector
or a photographer?

Seriously though, I guess you are right.

If you already have both lenses, how can people you don't know tell
you which is best?

Put the camera on a tripod.
Take the same (landscape?) shot at f8.
Compare the prints by eye.

If one is clearly better, it's the best lens.


Now with the camera still on the tripod take a shot of a statue
(simulated portrait) with the f1.4 lens at f1.4.  Now, ooops ... you
can't set the f1.8 lens to f1.4!!!! If that bothers you then the 1.4
is the better lens.
