Adobe is offering (until November) Photoshop CS (version 8) at a deep discount to those who purchased cameras with bundled Photoshop Elements 2. Now they've announced Photoshop CS2 (version 9). Were they just clearing inventory prior to launching a new version? The upgrade to CS2 is $149, probably plus tax and shipping. I haven't checked to see if the enhancements are worth the price (for a rank amateur). Having bought Elements 3.0 and, lately, Photoshop CS, I'm wondering if I should feel miffed.

They may well have been clearing inventory. Many, perhaps most, manufacturers have deep cuts in prices to get rid of inventory before announcing a new "thing" without telling the buying public what they're up to. This tactic makes good business sense. This way they are not stuck with a warehouse full of the old "thing" and keep cash flowing.
Feel miffed if you want, but consider this a lesson. If prices are much lower today than they were yesterday, clearing inventory might be why.
