One of 396,000 references dredged up with Google searching cd longevity. NIST has clearly been interested in this subject. The plastics used in CDs and DVDs have a finite useful life.

I would check that. I have been told, data archived to CDs last three times longer than data stored to DVDs. The most stable and current archival methods appear to be hard drives. Preferably external and of the RAID technology.
