Kansas City has what's called First Fridays where
all the galleries in the art district are open on the first Friday of each
month. The fun begins about 6 and goes well into the night. Galleries are open
late, all serve food and most served wine and or beer until that was stopped for
distributing liquor without a license. Most galleries now get a temporary
license to serve alcohol. It's a great time and a super way to see lots of art
and lots of kinds of art in a single evening.

gallery
Marilyn,
A common practice is "gallery crawls."
Our attendance at openings increased substantially when we coordinated them
with the other galleries in the downtown area. We invite people for
noon "brown bag" talks on the last Friday of the show - even manage
to get a sponsor for those sometimes. The artist(s) or one of our members
talks about the show. We also encourage teachers to bring
classes. You shouldn't expect too much walk-in traffic.
Try dressing as a giant tube of Windsor Newton cadmium orange
paint and wave at people driving by the gallery.
:-)
