Hi Steve,
I'm involved with three galleries. Two nonprofit and one now forming that will probably be for profit.
One gallery is doing away with its co-op gallery because members promise to sit, then don't show up, which means the gallery isn't open.
The gallery I'm concerned with most is one that has been in operation since the late '60s. Two other galleries that are just starting up are contemplating having co-op galleries, but are hesitating because of the problem of having reliable gallery sitters.
I have a feeling that if these three galleries were in Carmel, we might be in a better situation {:->
The idea of allowing the gallery sitter a percentage of any sales made while on their watch sounds promising.

Could you be more direct about why you want this information? You phrase this as though it were a study. Is this to use for you own gallery?
The typical 'start-up' co-op gallery mandates that the participating artists
schedule time for the gallery. The one successful and new gallery here in
Carmel has all the artists share in the prifits of the sales. That becomes
an additional incentive to Gallery Sit. Collective payment.
The Carmel Art Association began with volunteers, back in the 1930's and due
to the success, endowments, volumen sales it has become a business with paid
personnel.
Are you interested for a study, or to start a gallery?

attractHello,
Are there any co-op gallery members here at PF? If so, how do youinterestedand keep gallery sitters? Is all the gallery sitting left to the co-op members?
Those of you who participate in any way with galleries - how do those galleries handle gallery sitting?
I am asking concerning nonprofit entities in particular, but I amin hearing about any galleries.
