The SuperCCD pixel layout *isn't rectangular*.  You *can't* simply
produce a pixel-by-pixel TIFF file from it.  The simplest, and the
actual, method used to get the diamond array turned into a rectangular
grid is to take it up to the next higher size first.  The "12
megapixel" possibility really is inherent in the SuperCCD layout.
