This strategy is easy to emulate: take all your pictures with the normal-sensor camera held at 45 degrees - then you can interpolate up - the way Fuji do. In fact, maybe we have the way to generate infinite detail: interpolate up, rotate 45degree in PS, interpolate up, rotate 45degree in PS, interpolate up ......... OK, maybe the photos are good: as a user though I would be miffed at meeding 12MPx worth of storage to save 6MPx worth of information.
