Prograin sounds like a texture mask.... used long time ago by photographers (I still have my Paterson sets 1 and 2)
If I want grain I go the Delta3200/Rodinal 1+100 route (popcorn-like grain), or just push my old friend APX100 1 or 2 stops

Photoshop can be used to add grain, I saw in adorama university ( http://www.adorama.com/catalog.tpl?op=article_030804 ) a plugin used to simulate any kind of film, in terms of grain and all....

With Prograin, the unfortunate part is that grain is added at the time of
capture, necessitating that all frames be used with grain filter OR mid-roll
winding, taking out prograin filter, load the film again for remaining
shots.
Have not used it but came across the information sometime back. Alan, have
you used it personally? did you like it (compared to Photoshop?).
thanks,
Achal
