Thanks for the answer. I've been reading some about the G5, but many has complaints about the autofocus and grainy pictures, and some rate the G3 as better. And it is not alone with external flash capabilities. Cnet might not have a lot of professional photographers (but neither am I), but there are quite a few complaints here: http://reviews.cnet.com/Canon_PowerShot_G5/4852-6501_7-21256373.html?tag=dir -----Original Message----- From: lea <lea@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: List for Photo/Imaging Educators - Professionals - Students <photoforum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 02 Mar 2004 07:49:11 -0600 Subject: Re: Advice on digital camera I'd consider the G5 because of the ability to add an external flash. My dad and sister just recently purchased Canon A80s and they are nice little cameras and less dollars to boot. I've been playing around with them and like the feel. It's not a 10D :o) but it gets the job done. I would like some advice on which digital camera to buy. I have the old Canon Powershot A40, which I like, but it needs to be upgraded. I also have the Canon 300 (Rebel in USA) with a couple of cheap lenses. I've been thinking of upgrading to the Canon 300D (or Digital Rebel), but I still think it is too expensive. So, my question is, what digital camera would you recommend in the price category somewhere under $500? > > I have some candidates like Fuji FinePix S7000, Canon G5 and G3, Nikon Coolpix 5700, Minolta 7Hi, Olympus C-5050 and C-5060, but I might very well forgotten someone. From what you read, all have their pros and cons. I don't care about the size, what I do care about is the image quality (of course). Low f-stops, good zoom and macro is a plus. > > Sincerely, > > Klas Hjelm > (from Sweden, currently studying in USA) > > >
