Fletdher has the right idea. Sometimes it helps to hang some strips of dark material inside the tent so they reflect in the jewelry. That reinforces the metal idea and takes away some of the plastic look. If you can, using a light table and putting some small holes in the paper or cloth background that you can place the stones over for just a touch of light coming through will help. That gets tricky, however.
