They are high (optical) quality and dirt cheap.
Is that enough reason?



OK, on my Canon EOS the don't have autofocus, but so what.
Nor do they have auto-aperture which is a pain.

For static subjects which won't fly away if you move your hand they
work.  Unlike AF lenses they have a small frontal area - so less
shadowing ...
