Jim, You wrote . | | There is nothing wrong with the Auto focus on the 10d. | I beg to differ. You find nothing wrong with the the focus on YOUR 10D, but there is a problem. In fact there are a couple of problems. First, the 10D tolerances do allow for many cameras to get through with less than perfect focus. This has been pretty well documented in other I'net forums. The majority of 10D's perform well, but there are more than simply "a few" with substandard focus. You must remember that there is more to focus than the camera. The lens is part of the system. When asked, and when the camera is out of tolerance, Canon will tweak an individual camera body and lens to perform with each other. They will NOT do this if the body and lens is within specs (even though I suspect if they did this it would make all their cameras perform in the spectacular range). AsI understand it, although I don't understand why, this can be done only at the factory repair centers. If they could put the software/hardware to do this into the hands of individual camera repair shops throughout the world, I suspect 10D owners would be lining up to tweak their indidual outfits to optimal performance. The system may be pricy to obtain, but that would be a problem for each camera repair facility to solve by evaluating expected use and charges for service. For you and I, our systmes work well now, but I know mine could be just a bit better. It would be worth a hundred bucks or so to have my system optimally tweaked. The other problem with your statement is that the 10D is not Canon's best focusing system. It is faster than the system on the D60 and D30, but it is still way behind their EOS 1v and 1Ds focusing system. There is still room for improvement. pax, rand
