Hi
If Melbourne becomes a serious option, my cousin (Mark Galer) teaches commercial photography at RMIT and I could get some detailed information for you, although he and the technical photogs are not too closely linked. The course is very hard to get into as they get a lot of applicants - I've had a lot of good students who haven't made it on the first attempt and especially on the forensic photography side, the queue is around the block.
I also have an acquaintance who works in the nature photography field in Melbourne as a film technician with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation - he developed a fibre-optic camera for photographing Platypus in the burrow for David Parer (and I'm not allowed to talk about the next venture but you'll love it once they solve the problem of the subject eating the cameras). I could ask his opinion on the quality of the RMIT course too.

Hello listmembers

Apologizes for the first post which left the building unfinished...

Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Frímann Freyr Björnsson,
a scientific photography enthusiast from Iceland.

I?m looking for a good school in the field of scientific/technical
photography. I have been experimenting lately with time-lapse,
computer controlled time-lapse arms, streak photography etc, and I?m
really hoping I can make a career out of this. My enthusiasm about
doubled when I saw a lecture this autumn by David Attenborough, with the
most stunning time-lapse videos I have ever seen. I am really
fascinated about being able to peek into the secrets of the world around
us with the help of technology.

So the question is. Do you know about any good schools that cover this field or could aid me to the right direction? Since I?m located in Iceland I?m mainly looking for schools in Europe but USA is an option to.

So far I have found three schools:

Rochester Institute of Technology in NY sate:
A program called Imaging and Photographic Technology, which in my
opinion looks really promising.

Univeristy of Westminster in London:
A program called Digital & Photographic Imaging, not as technical as the
course at RIT I think.

RMIT in Melbourne Australia:
A program called Photography (Scientific). Looks really good, but
Australia is a bit far away I think, but still, an option.

Also I´m wondering how hard it is to get into these schools? The thing is that my mother sent me to a business school when I was 16 years old, and since I have no interest in business what so ever, my grades weren´t that good! I realize that I will probably have to take some extra courses in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Best Regards Frímann Freyr Björnsson
