Photoshop 4? Makes me look up to date!
System 8.6? Wow. Even with my 9600/350 I managed to make it to 9.1
two years ago.
If you upgrade to a G4, presumably you'll get OS X, a whole new
world, which you may not like - ever. But you'll also get the
capacity to run your older software from X. It will automatically
launch 9.2 running under X.
Alternatively, you'll get the option to reboot into 9.2 just by
selecting the correct option when you shut down.
However, I would suggest that you start the arduous process of
getting more current software as you make this transition to the
modern age! Most of it has features you'll regret waiting so long
for.
