emilys question on materials used triggered a subject i wanted to ask about for some time (but never remeber infront of the pc)

it regards the flatbed scanners descreening capabilities.
i use an Epson 1660 Photo that has a choice of "color document" in the scanning options...that has worked ok for what i have used it for,but for the first time i am scanning product catalogues supplied by the manufacturers in preparation of some magazine articles of mine....and to say the truth descreening is not good...and the scanner will go as far as 500 dpi in that mode.

some years ago i was using a friend's Musteck 1200 flatbed, and that stuff offered a choice of descreening settings...till now, i though that my Epson was clever enough to pick the right descreening itself...no i wonder

the actuall question is: is the fault of the scanner, or teh problem lies in the screening that particular catalogues printing uses?

thansk beforehand, kostas
