As a performer, strictly classical. I'm a (french)
hornist. Did Orff's Carmina Burana a couple weeks
ago, a few days later, Beethoven Symphony #1 and Piano
Concerto #3. A bunch of holiday concerts coming up,
including a Messiah sing-in. Yes, I take my camera
along to rehearsals.

As a listener, in the lightroom, mostly jazz, blues,
classical, and BBC news on shortwave. Stack of CDs on
my desk right now is Cassandra Wilson, Jason Moran,
Robert Jospe, Dave Holland Quartet, Cesaria Evora,
Motown's Hitsville USA, Vol. 2, Mozart Horn Concertos
(Dennis Brain, horn), Philip Glass's Violin Concerto,
and Cephas and Wiggins.

To change the topic slightly... This is off the top
of my head, and it's very late. Many photographers
have made photos of musicians. Most haven't been much
more than publicity shots. Technically quite
accomplished, perhaps (think Rolling Stone), but...

What are the exceptions? The photographers that have
produced seriously good work from music? I can think
of several who have shot the jazz scene--Decarava,
Smith, Friedlander (mostly jazz, but gospel and R&B,
too). I like the John Cohen's work with country and
folk musicians. Who else would you suggest I look at?
 Please, no Leibovitz.
