I am Head of Operations at Plymouth College of Art and Design in England. I am carrying out some research into Photographic Education in the USA and am having a few difficulties in gaining information. Details regarding BA level qualifications is quite readily available on individual University websites, however, I am looking for details of 'pre' university qualifications specializing in photography. In the UK we have a range of vocational qualifications, which I think would be similar in level to the latter years of USA High School education. These are termed National Diplomas. There are also a number of other national qualifications with photography as a specialism, NVQ's and City and Guilds, etc. How, where and what can students study to prepare them for the Higher Educational/University level programmes in the USA? Can you let me know how photographic education is structured and if there are national (or at least nationally recognised and understood) qualifications available for students who wish to specialize during High School, either as an art form or as a vocational route. Is there an industry body or institute, similar to the British Institute of Professional Photography, that provides qualifications or recogition of qualifications ? Please pass this email on to anyone who you think may be able to help. Thanks in anticipation Dave ps: You can contact me either by return email to my hotmail account or email dhotchkiss@pcad.ac.uk
