get in the way between the children and myself.

This is great advice. If fact,that there will be a photo session should come as a complete surprise to kids. Otherwise, they will use their cooperation as a weapon. And, as someone has suggested, doing the group stuff first might be a good idea.
Sorry, I can't give any generalized advice about a reshoot. Believe me, you are earning every cent you charge!!!!
