naomi rosenblum's "a world history of photography" has a couple of chapters on this subject, and will give you a decent bibliography from which to work.

Subject: Learning The History of the Photograph as Art

Forumeers,

Reading Luis' stunning posts about art, photography and history always
leaves me wanting more. Until Luis uses his considerable talent to write his
own book (soon, Luis?), is there any other book out there that could bring
me up to date on the subject of Photography as Art?

I don't know Prince, Levine, Winogrand or Pomo. But I want to learn.

So I am open for suggestions.

thanks, all.

peace and pixels,

rand
