Leoanrdo - the last PTC camera (was Re: Pass The Camera project?)

Mea ulpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa...

Leonardo, the last PTC camera did safelely land in my hands about
mid-february. The film was processed successfully, only to show that
out of 21 pictures 10 were OK, 3 were underexposed but usable and 8 were
severely fogged, 6 of which beyond anything rescuable.

The pattern of fogging is best described as being "systematic but
random" (which is different from "randomly systematic"...) and despite
the best efforts of the participants, nobody was able to make sense of
what had happened to the film.

A particularly puzling feature of this fogging is that it is exactly
full-frame (i-e rectangular 24x36mm) but "off" by about 1-1.5mm from the
underlying image. Thus a very tiny strip of what the underlying image
might have been is visible.

The fogging is not linked to border crossing of the camera but any plane
travel would obviously put the film at risk. Interestingly, it extends
(albeit at a diminishing rate) beyond the last participant's image
through the unexposed portion of the film.

I informed the Leonardo participants of these results as soon as I got
them and we began a discussion began as to where to go next. But I got
sidetracked by the preparation of two exhibitions and the discussion
came to a halt. Hopefully we can get back to it when my exhibition
folds down at the end of next week and things are a bit more quiet for
me. In the meantime, please feel free to ask additional questions.

Best regards to all and sincere apologies to Leonardo participants for
the delay.

Guy Glorieux

P.S. In connection with the fogging issue, I should mention that, as
Leonardo was doing her travels, I had launched a "Flying Pinhole" camera
which also travelled around the world but did not experience any
fogging...! The film was a 120-format Fuji Reala ISO 100 in a all-metal
Kodak 616 camera turned into pinhole... The film and camera came back
in excellent shape and there was not a trace of fogging (other than from
the camera leaking light in the window counter area). More details if
you are interested can be found at
