What follows are my takes on this weeks images. The disclaimer, as always, is that my opinions are highly subjective and based on my personal bias and influenced more by how the pictures made me feel than any technical aspects. With that in mind,

Dan Mitchell - "Old Buoys Network"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/mitchell.html

........I like the colors in this shot too......the green reminds me of the beautiful waters surrounding South Pacific islands and the pink and red of corals and anemones I've seen on dives.......

Dan Cardish - "Hot Air Balloons"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/cardish.html

.........colorful shot with lots to look at.......the balloon in the lower center looks like it's wearing balloon earings and the one at the lower left seems to sport a balloon hat.......a cut above the average static balloons in flight shot........

Kristoffer J Buquet - "Little Surfer Boy"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/buquet.html

........aw, how can one not like this.........great expression on the boy's face.......my only caveats are I would have liked a larger image and, at least on my monitor, the picture is a little washed out........needs some contrast I think.......

Bob Talbot - "Yaffle bird"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/talbot.html

.........as a life long flier one of my favorite subjects are birds........this is a great portrait of a very colorful specimen.......it must have an interesting variety of behaviours to elicit so many nicknames.......nice shot........

Jim Davis - "Fishing from a Boat"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/davis.html

.........good placement of the bird amongst the boats......I like this as evidence of a place and it makes me wonder where you stand on the notion that a true nature shot must not show any evidence of the hand of man........

Greg Fraser - "Rail Song"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/fraser.html

.........good tonal range for a black and white but the subject doesn't do anything for me..........

Walter Kelton - "Train"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/kelton.html

........superb placement of train, track and tree line........the only way I could see to improve this shot would be if you could have somehow avoided the telephone pole and little white building to the left of the engine.........otherwise a beautifully balanced composition........

Emily L. Ferguson - "Sunset cloud column"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/ferguson.html

........this might be *poorly processed and printed* but the form and the color make it a distinctive image........needless to say as a pilot I'm enamoured of the infinite variety of sky shots and this one evokes thoughts of a pillar of fire.........

Christopher Strevens - "On Reigate Hill"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/strevens.html

........wasn't quite sure what I was looking at here.......a bit over manipulated for my taste........not my cup of tea........

Rand Flory - "The Cowboys"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/flory.html

.........the classic definition of *silhouette* is an outline of something filled with a solid color so no, the cowboys are not in silhouette......having said that I confess to really liking this shot for what it is.........nicely composed and framed and fun to look at..........

jIMMY Harris - "Mantis"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/jharris.html

..........well, where I come from a mantis is green.........this one looks a little anemic and there seems to be way too much magenta in the image.........I had one of these for a pet once when we lived in New Hampshire........interesting critters.........

Marilyn Dalrymple - "Bamboo Fan Handle"
http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/gallery/dalrymple.html

..........a very nice study in shadows........again, with the caveats that I would have liked to see this in a bigger image and it's just a tad washed out ........could use a bit more contrast for my taste.......but beautifully composed........

.......the Zen philosopher Hui-neng wrote *the meaning of life is to see*........thanks to Andy, the staff and all who contributed for extending my vision.........
