I third the Olympus E-10. Things I love about it: it can take the compact flash AND smart media cards at the same time it is light and easy to carry around the on-camera flash is wonderful it has a hot shoe and pc socket so studio lights can be used the clarity of the lens is stunning color is excellent a cord can connect it to a Quantum battery...cheap and easy manual, program, aperature and shutter priority modes Things I tolerate about it: fidgety in cold weather slow to show images on the built-in monitor only goes to f/11 I bought mine 2.5 years ago. For the money now, I'd look at the Canon D-10...but I have an entire Canon EOS system so I already have lenses and flash for that line....which are compatible. I do portrait, advertising, some wedding and loads of personal stuff with my E-10 and have never for a second been sorry to have made the purchase.
