Here is a bizarre correspondence about image copyright between Brian Carver, a producer of a website about Ludwig Josef Johann Wittgenstein, and Dr. Joerg Tuske, who is with the Wittgenstein Archive.Bizarre? A remarkably polite correspondence that in other hands might have degenerated into threat and abuse and with a very satisfying conclusion.

Now, what is the copyright protection for the archivist? - I find the explanation here most unconvincing. The archivist also seems unaware that anyone accessing his site has, in fact, downloaded the images and breached his 'copyright.'
