There are specialists who can polish and or bevel the edge of glass
pieces for frameless mounts - and a good glazier or glass supplier
should be able to do it. Stained glass (leadlight) suppliers can also
help.
Cutting your own for regular frames is easy. Practice on window glass
scrap (3mm) until you feel comfortable doing it - lighter 2mm is
better for frames in plain or non-reflective. Use a cheap cutter to
start with and lubricate with a mix of light machine oil and white
spirit/turps. Even plain kerosene will work - lubrication is the
absolute key to good cutting - stand the cutter on a cotton wool ball
soaked in the lubricant between every cut.

Hi Charles,
I already make my frames. What I was wondering is if you just buy glass say
from a local hardware store or is there some palce where you buy the glass
with the polished edges.

Hi Bill,
Here in Brazil a good photo frame is very expensive ... today I was
researching about the price for 10 50x60cm frames (no glass because I
would
transport it and want no broken glass), wooden frame of 3cm ... it would
cost 1/3 the price of a brand new Minolta IVF flashmeter.
To construct your own frames you'll need a special tool to cut the
corners
of the frame diagonally, a wooden electric cutter, and some other tools
...
if you buy the bulk frame and cut it yourself the costs would drop at
least
50% ... it worths the investiment and I'm planning to do that.
Yours,
Charles
