Andrew Davidhazy:

While acknowledging that we all see and react to the same visual objects differently, I want to share my warm feelings about your untitled photo of yellow flowers (poppies?).  The striking beauty and enviable perfection of your creation immediately captured my attention upon opening up the 1-18-03 Photoforum exhibition.  I am not often affected by photos or other so-called works of art I see, but when I am, the reaction is instantaneous and virtually reflexive.  When it happens, I have to stop and ask myself what it was about the photo that moved me so strongly.  The answers do not come easily.  I often give up attempting to isolate and identify the elements responsible for the wonderful esthetic/emotional experience, although the potential answers are intriguing.  I am aware that my personal reaction to any given photograph or other work of art may be idiosyncratic and not shared by others.  Having said all that, I find the composition of your flowers superbly integrated and balanced, the colors of the flowers sensual, their translucency magically ethereal, and the soft lighting surrounding the flowers engaging.  I wish I had created the photograph; it is wonderful and beautiful.
