Re: Inexpensive background suggestions

I hit my local Wal-Mart and buy bleached muslin and use as a lightweight white backdrop.. and it can be painted as well. Use flat black, and if you have kids, involve them. I typically put down some heavy plastic on my drive way and place the muslin on it, and wet it down. By them my kid and friends have gathered to watch. I then give each kid hovering nearby a roller on a pole, and pour the paint and let them spread it around. I make sure each kid is wearing old clothes and no shoes. Only had one mom freak when her child came home with black feet. Most run me about 20-30 when I paint up a backdrop.

I am looking for tips/suggestions for inexepensive black or high-key white backgrounds to use in an "home studio" (seamless preferred). I have made some preliminary investigations and note that you can buy Muslin backgounds for about $50 to $75. There must be other solutions. I am looking for something simple, for portraits. If you have done this before, your suggestions would be most welcomed.
