Roderick Chen - an enigmatic picture: is it a monk on the way to prayer? Or a prisoner? To me, the body language seems to express a sense of resignation rather than meditation... A more conventional composition would have let the person walk INTO the picture rather than OUT of it, - this would again be more in line with the second interpretation. For my taste, the figure is a few milimeters too close to the black structure/shadow in the background. Richard Cooper - Lines Beautiful picture, although I'd prefer the boat (and esp. the eye-catching red jacket) to be out of the center, quite a bit more to the right (in the "golden cut"), which also would have given you a nice triangle between the pillar of the bridge, the boat and the wooden post. John Mason - Smoke from Burn Outs, Eastside Raceway maybe my favourite this week- it's like a glimpse of a different reality (hell?). The selective focus on the car, the huge figure coming out of the smoke and walking into the picture: perfect composition. Greg Fraser - Reality another surrealistic shot. I also would like to see the boy a bit more in the center of the boardwalk. Gregory david Stempel - The Storm great composition - I quite like the colour contrast between the road and the sky. Cropping the lower part of the road gives the picture a completely different mood, but I wouldn't really prefer it that way- although the bright lights in the foreground are deflecting the attention a bit from the lightning. David Small - the cross safely locked away? this leaves room for many interpretations. And: what is art? ;-) Here again, it's the photographer who detects the abstract painting in an everyday structure. I also like the restriction to 3 colours that you usually expect to find in "primitive" art... Alan P. Hayes - Convenience Store I must admit, I can't relate to this picture. The "Stop - all way"-sign is quite interesting, but I find the big bright spots in the foreground and especially the lights towards the extreme left quite distracting. Cropping those few pixles on the left would make the image much stronger in my opinion. Jim Davis - waiting in the rain nice atmosphere. The birds of course, are too small to really be the subject of that shot - still a nice scene. I hope they caught a tasty fish! Bob Talbot - Warrior Despite the different colours, the similarities in expression are striking, although I find the swan even more "stately" in appearance. Also, those birds can be very aggressive 'warriors' indeed! I like the diagonal composition. Dan Mitchell - Tram car exactly the right moment: there's still sufficient space between the tram and the yellow poster, and none of the persons in the background were "mutilated" in the process. The poster adds to the atmosphere of a time gone by. David Thompson - University of Texas tower Amazing colours. Personally, I'd crop a bit off the top and left (the lamp post). Hideki Tomeoka - another strong colour contrast, otherwise a very quiet, meditative picture. The figure in the centre is nicely blurred, but I'd like to see a bit more structure in the leaves and a tiny bit more space towards the left (so that the leaves would not quite touch the frame).
