I agree with Colette that shooting with JPEG on anything serious should be 
avoided, but I have to disagree that it can't be used in a pinch.  The trick 
is to convert it to another file format--TIFF, Photoshop, etc. before making 
ANY alterations to the file or re-saving it.  You can open and close a JPEG 
file as many times as you want to and there is no degradation until the file 
is altered and/or re-saved.
