The old days of a low setting fee and real high print prices are changing for the most of us. Getting paid up front for what your worth is the direction alot of us are starting to use. Your time, talent and effort is worth alot more than "No setting fee" or a very low one.
Then offer your print pricing at a reasonalbe amount, where ever you feel is right for you, keeping in mind that this is a business and you always have other expenses to pay.
I have gone to "NO PACKAGES" and have also gotten rid of the unit thing. I just makes the buying decision harder for the customer. Everything I'm offering is alacarte, folks buy what they need and the more they need the more money you make. My 3X's & 4X's are priced the same, as is my 5X's & 8X's, etc.... Some photographers can ask the same price for wallets up to 8X's, I'm not their yet. ;-) With packages they are tied into what they spend, plus alot of times it's to many prints or not enough, again making life harder for them. With "NO PACKAGES" I'm finding my sales are going up. Proofs very rarely leave the studio, of course if the customers buys alot I'm very flexable with the proofs, if they buy all of them they are X amount but if they only want a few there alittle higher. Another thing that is happenning is if the customer buys today, there X amount, higher a week from now and much higher a month from now. ;-)
One of the best High School Senior Photographers in the country is Fuzzy Duenkel, check out his website:
www.duenkel.com and look at his pricing. Now he's at the high end of senior portraiture but you'll understand my thoughts. Another place to visit and learn more about pricing is www.pro4um.com
Hope I didn't get to carried away, just some thoughts for you, hope it helps, Ernst

Subject: Pricing..........

Hi Gang...............
Any body want to divulge what they are getting
for a basic Publicity Head Shot type sitting?
(like a performer would use)
I generally shoot three (maybe four)rolls of 120 shot in my RB 67,
allow them to change outfits with in reason and then I give them
the contact sheets of 30 to 40 shots.
Nice thing about 6x7 is that the contact sheets work fine for
proofs.........
(of course all the shots are not keepers)
I am just wondering if I am giving away my services.......?
