Deen...  As one who drives a Subaru Impreza RS 2.5 and owns a Fuji S2, I can attest that both items are alot of fun!  I shoot mostly nature and landscape and the S2 has served me well in this area.  Go for an S2 if you can!

Cheers,
Janine

I love that name... only beaten (narrowly) by Subaru Impreza WRX Sti Turbo :) and funnily enough, (I believe) both owned by mighty Fuji.... hmmmmm

Nowadays, I spend 2-3 days a week with a studio shooting kids digitally. For this kind of work (lots of frames, instant review, controlled lighting), the S2 is SUPERB. Its color is fantastic, requires almost no post-processing and is friendly enough to use. This has made me think about the purchase of an S2 Pro so I can see if I can put it to use for other kinds of photography. I have _never_ seen it used in any other environment, though.

Now, the thing that shocks me is that we can get rather nice PRINTS (mini-poster) with a 3MP S1... and I am the same guy who always felt that 35mm _film_ can't be enlarged reasonably beyond 8x10 (max).... am I plain wrong?

Or is it just the subject (kids/portraits), rather than complicated patterns and texture that I tend to otherwise shoot? Is there a bett er way to print my slides/negs to poster size; so it will look good when viewed from 3 feet?

QUANDARY: The studio I work with also has an S1 and a Nikon D1 for sale.

Of course, anyone with brains will understand that 6MP, firewire, built-in flash (and supposedly works with my SB24) should pretty much settle it for the S2, BUT being a kNikon user and minder of a F5 I adore (although not afford :) ) I am seduced by the heft and build of the D1. Also I should be able to get the used D1 for about US$1600/-... the S2 is $2500/- new.

Please someone, tell me 2.5MP and a dodgy workflow (COLOUR PROFILE needs to be changed for every image, unlike the S2) makes the S2 a better (sensible) choice.

BTW, for those who recall the light-on-water photo, I just discovered what colour profiles can do... Opened up the thing yesterday and accepted the embedded profile (rather than discard), and HOT DAMN! that is a nice picture... :) I want a print!!!! :'(

Yo urs digitally,
Deen
