The SuperCCD on the Fuji Finepix cameras uses a different physical layout for the CCD array, which requires it to 'process' the raw images (to fill in the missing lines in the honeycomb-layout of the SuperCCD). Even if you were to set the camera to a lower resolution (say the native 6MP of the S2 Pro), it would _still_ 'process' the image to 12MP and then back down again... (don't ask)... It's not a marketing trick; it's part of that array's design. That said, I've used and worked with S1s, S2s and D1s at work, and the Fuji are markedly better in terms of colour, resolution and all even compared to the D1. Even at the same settings (within the abilities of the D1 or D30), the results are better... markedly. I'm not saying Fuji are innocent of it, but I think they are guilty of a marketing blunder than trying to simply mislead customers.
