white balance at 5000 k

well, that is a bit specailized, but i got to know this to make the optimum 
screen selection.

of the 2 candidates one offers white balance temp adjustment at 9300 and 
6500 K, but the other offers adjustment at 5000 K too.
that kind of temp is critical in photography, isn't it?
but how critical is in white belance selection?
is it THE most used & important white temp adj, or can i save many bucks and 
opt for the 9300/6500 screen?
