taking pics of a festival

well, it is less than a week for the opening of a 3 day dance
(techno-trip-rave) music festival that is co-organized by the radio station
i chip in a few hours a week.

so, guess who is going to take the shots to remember of, or maybe the
publicity ones...

thus i would gladly appreciate your tips...

i feel quite confident about the night shots of the artists on the scene
(tech stuff aside), but i am awed by the challenge of shooting the crowds,
and getting "moment" shots of people the street reporter style.

my earlier efforts revealed a tendency to react too late to the scene
developing and catching the moment a few secs later. should i become more
bold and riskful (shooting NOW and not waiting for the scene to reach its
full evolvment).

tech stuff i will encounter will be:
too strong a sun light, since the festival will take place at a mountain
camping ground. that will require the use of fill in flash, but what should
i do with the people seeking the shadow of trees or the overhead positioned
nets for shading? (these may produce small spots of strong light on peoples
faces). should i go for straight flash shots?

should i try to get atmospearic shots in B&W during lightfall?

i plan on getting shots of the people, the artists & DJs, my fellow radio
people in moments of joy as give-aways, but what else should i take photos
of?

and most significantly, is there a method of getting shots of people such as
relaxed in the park, dancing, etc? anyone got Woodstock experience out
there?

hmmmmm....rereading the post it seems i almost have reached the answers
myself.

cheers, kostas
