Karl,

The hex-tone system that I know about, Piezography, is really quad tones
with two redundant inks in the light cyan and light magenta position - I'd
have to look it up to see which. There is only a Piezo driver available for
the currently available 1280 Epson printer and one for the old 1200.  

Except for Piezography, which is quite expensive, quad-tone printing is a
bit more experimental and fussy for some compared to color printing. The
ideal system would print straight out of the box AND allow experienced users
to control the six inks individually. I expect this to be available soon on
the less expensive printers. For some (not me) the Holy Grail is a quad
print that looks like a silver print. And then there are the achievability
issues.
