hello all! I would like to ask about the debug logs of the pam_unix module. I'm currently getting

May 20 11:05:42 linux1 login[7891]: FAILED LOGIN 1 FROM 10.1.3.148 FOR mango, Authentication failure

Could someone please explain this? I think the first line is about the user not being known but how come the last line says authentication failure instead of user unknown?
