This socket is to be reused? Are you sure? Could it be we are talking about
different things (sockets)?
A excerpt of netstat -to while nntpcache-update was running:

The second listed socket is still in the CLOSE state (and has been in CLOSE
for days). So it seems this socket isn't used anymore and thus nntpcache
has probably missed closing it?
