I found an RPM on www.rpmfind.net for 2.4 b5 for Linux and installed it. I am now working and it was a smoot process, apart from a mismatch on the cache folder nntpcache.config and where the actual RPM creates the cache folder. Perhaps you can dig in there and see the workaround?
