In my opinion, it's an excellent book. I'd imagine it's pretty rare for a book covering the internals of a software project to *not* become quickly outdated. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing, so don't write it off just yet. Depending on your learning style, you might find it beneficial to follow along anyway and try to reconcile the differences between the book and the state of today's Linux source code.
