You can look into this:-

Hi group,

Since some time I've wondered about using a small LCD monitor that
connects via USB rather than VGA or DVI.
They seem to be rare and somewhat pricey, but since they do exist
I've always wondered whether Linux actually supports such thing, I
certainly can't see it it my kernel.

I also noticed that those "digital photoframes" nowadays have become
very inexpensive. (~$30 & up).
They all seem to have at least a USB (device) connection and an SD card
slot.

If thsi is not supported in Linux yet, has anyone ever wondered about
using such cheap frame devices as small LCD monitor for eg. embedded
use ?

It seems this would be a fun open source project : to select a commonly
available LCD photoframe, that (ideally) uses an ARM or so CPU/MCU and
(even more ideal) has a JTAG connection.
I guess it's possible they're some sort of custom SoiC in there.
In absence of JTAG and suitable CPU, I'd be prepared to do a new PCB
with suitable HW.

Does anyone think this would be a viable idea ?
Does anyone know where the best place/group would be to see if others
want to join in on such a project ?
I can't think of a better way to put some embedded Linux learning to
practice....

I'm floating this here at first because I don't feel like joining yet
another group, when it's not necessary... I hope that's acceptable.

TIA
