1. 2.6.29-rc1 will be released 2 weeks after 2.6.28.

2. The mm-tree is a pool for experimental stuff. This tree is not a
git repository. It is a collection of patches. And sometimes Andrew
Morton creates a big patch against the mainline kernel.
Could explain more detail? For example: currently, the latest mm-tree version is 2.26.28-rc2-mm1, my feel is that it is a patch on top of 2.26.28-rc2 which is on top of 2.26.28 base version. What is  the next version of mm-tree and it's base version?
