You are, what api are you using?  (hint, you really aren't, you are
telling userspace that if it wants to, it could create a device node for
this device using a tool like udev.)

Sorry, Linux does not have a devfs anymore, so you have to do it in
userspace.

Why do you not want to just write a single line of a udev rule?
